Danae Papadopoulou

Musician – Singer
Danae Papadopoulou was born in Athens in 1986 and is the daughter of songwriter Theodoris Papadopoulos and lyricist Anthoula Athanasiadou. She began her musical journey at a very young age, starting formal conservatory studies in guitar and piano while still in primary school. At the same time, she worked as a voice artist in the advertising industry, lending her voice to hundreds of commercials and jingles—a profession she has pursued from the age of five to the present day. She is a graduate of the Music High School of Pallini and the Department of Music Studies at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. She holds a Diploma in Harmony and studied vocal performance for five years under the renowned vocal teacher Mirka Gementzaki. Danae plays the ney and piano and has been performing professionally as a singer since 2004. As a vocalist, she has focused primarily on Greek traditional and urban folk music, while also exploring more contemporary repertoires from both Greece and around the world.
Throughout her career, she has collaborated with many distinguished performers and musicians and has worked extensively in Athens and across numerous Aegean islands, developing a particularly close connection to the musical traditions of the Greek islands.
Today, she is actively involved in the traditional, folk, and contemporary Greek music scene. She has appeared both on stage and in recording projects alongside artists such as Eleni Tsaligopoulou, Haris Alexiou, Eleftheria Arvanitaki, Ioulia Karapataki, Nefeli Fasouli, Lizeta Kalimeri, Melina Kana, Dimitris Bakoulis, Vasilis Prodromou, Babis Tsertos, Aspasia Stratigou, Theodoris Mermingas, and many others.
In 2024, she released her debut solo album, Mikri Limni (Little Lake), featuring guest appearances by Ioulia Karapataki, Eleni Tsaligopoulou, Nefeli Fasouli, and Agis Papapanagiotou. The album received widespread critical acclaim from both the press and radio broadcasters.
She has performed at leading music venues and festivals throughout Greece, including Technopolis City of Athens, Stavros tou Notou, Christmas Theater, Ilion Plus, and Half Note Jazz Club.
Danae has been teaching singing privately and individually for over fourteen years. She has also directed and taught several vocal ensembles and choirs, including the Polyphonica Intercultural Children's Choir (2012–2015), the Vocal Ensemble of the Ikaria Eastern Music Orchestra (2020–2022), and the choir of Nostos Orchestra and Voices (2024–2026).
Since 2024, she has led the Nostos Trio alongside Giannis Poulios, Taxiarchis Georgoulis, and Vangelis Karipis. The ensemble focuses on the musical traditions of the Eastern Mediterranean, including Greece, Turkey, the Arab world, and the historic Café Aman repertoire.
