Fotis Vergopoulos

Musician – Bouzouki

Fotis Vergopoulos was born in 1988 in Melbourne, Australia. He spent his childhood in his hometown, Koroni, Messinia. He became involved in music at an early age, around 6-7 years old, with the indirect encouragement and influence of his father, who had been a member of the Apodimi Kompania in Melbourne.

 

After high school, he returned to Australia to study civil engineering and began playing the bouzouki professionally in various venues, while also participating with his band in Australian festivals such as the Brunswick Music Festival, Port Fairy Folk Festival, etc. Since the end of 2012, he has been living permanently in Athens, where he has collaborated with musicians such as Babis Goles, Agathonas Iakovidis, Dimitra Galani, and others in Athens and the provinces, and has been a member of the band Rebetien, performing at music venues and festivals in Greece and abroad.
For the past five years, he has been a member of the Vasilis Tsitsanis Orchestra, curated by Manolis Pappos, as well as a member of Stavros Xarchakos' musical performance "Rebetiko" 40 Years Later.
