Musician – Oud

Andreas Andreou was born in Cyprus in 1989, where at the age of seven he began taking his first lessons in European music, both in theory (with a degree in harmony A') and in practice (piano lessons up to the Middle C grade). His interest expanded to urban folk music, where he studied the three-string bouzouki with Giorgos Fountos and then began lessons in the Turkish-style oud with Andreas Christodoulou, focusing on Logia Oth and broader Eastern musical traditions.

 

In 2014, he graduated from the Department of Folk and Traditional Music of the Technological Educational Institute of Epirus (now the Department of Music Studies at the University of Ioannina) with a specialization in the oud under the guidance of Kyriakos Tapakis, where he participated in various events, concerts, and a recording production of the department. In 2025, he graduated from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens with a master's degree in "Ethnomusicology and Music Practice." Specialization: Performance/interpretation of traditional folk music with a focus on the oud. 

During his musical career, he studied under leading teachers such as Markos Skoulios, Apostolos Tsardakas, Eugenios Voulgaris, Nikos Andrikos, and Babis Papadopoulos, and also took courses in Turkish-style oud playing as part of the seminars of the music workshop "Labyrinth" with Yordal Tockan and the seminar "Tropicity and Performance" with Nikos Andrikos at the reading room of Agiasos, Lesbos.

She has collaborated with various artists and musical groups such as Dimitris Bassis, Nadia Karagianni, Panagiotis Lalezas, Petros Gaitanos, Glykeria, Areti Ketime, Nikos and Yasemi Saragouda, Ria Ellinidou, Dilek Koc, Solon Lekkas, Theodoros Kouelis, Theodosia Stiga, Dimitris Kontogiannis, Socrates Malamas, Matoula Zamani, Imam Baildi, Loxandra ensemble. CAFE AMAN ISTANBUL, etc. He has also participated in numerous recording productions and taken part in a wide range of musical events, festivals, and concerts, both in Greece and abroad.

Since 2011, he has been teaching traditional and folk music on the oud, lute, bouzouki, folk guitar, etc., as well as Eastern music theory and folk street music theory. Since 2018, he has also been teaching at music schools in Greece and Cyprus.

In 2013, he worked as an intern at the Greek Music Archive of the Department of Folk and Traditional Music of the Technological Educational Institute of Epirus, where his job was to catalog and digitize audio, images, and moving images in the database of the "Archive of Greek Music" of the Central Library of the Technological Educational Institute of Epirus as well as archiving and indexing digital music files in the "Greek Music Archive."

In 2017, she participated in the 1st meeting of new traditional music groups "The leaves of the rose bush, the young people for Domna Samiou" at the Athens Concert Hall with the music group "AES CΥPRIUM ENSEMBLE," and in 2021 he participated in the 5th rebetiko festival "The Syros of Markos Vamvakaris" together with Petros Kouloumis.

In 2019, he was a speaker at the Eastern music seminar of the Romiosini cultural association in Cyprus entitled "Folk roads as a tool for studying, analyzing, and interpreting modal music. The case of Hicaz." In the same year, he participated as a musician in the second seminar on traditional Cypriot dances entitled "Discovering the musical and dance tradition of Cyprus" at the Federation of Cypriot Organizations in Greece.
