Avlida: a place of myth,
nature, and harmony

Avlida

The Myth

Agamemnon, leader of the Greeks in the Trojan War, provoked the wrath of the goddess Artemis. As punishment, she stopped the winds and the fleet could not sail from Aulis. The soothsayers revealed that only the sacrifice of his daughter, Iphigenia, would appease the goddess. Agamemnon, though devastated, accepted his cruel fate. However, at the critical moment, Artemis took pity on Iphigenia and, replacing her with a deer, spared her life.
